Texas Campaign for the Environment (TCE) has been working for every Texan’s right to clean land, air, and water since 1991. Our purpose is to organize communities across the state so we can stand up against big polluters, keep pressure on our elected officials to accomplish everything in their power while protecting the people they serve, and keep our homes and livelihoods safe and healthy for the present-day as well as the generations to come.
Currently, we need in-person voices to add to our current staff of inclusive and passionate activists so we can strengthen our community mobilization presence in Central Texas. We offer extensive training, opportunities for management experience, and travel.
Field Organizers will create relationships within our communities and build a grassroots base of supporters. The key responsibility of the Field Organizer is conducting membership recruitment, fundraising, and letter-writing drives within the community, through COVID-safe door-to-door canvassing. When Organizers can demonstrate proficiency in their core responsibilities, from time to time there will be special projects or city hall meetings where staff can participate in other forms of organizing work / political advocacy.
We win campaigns and build political power by engaging community members year round with door-to-door, face-to-face, grassroots organizing. Knocking on doors for the last thirty years all across Texas has brought about monumental changes in our state and local environmental policies, and we’ve held polluters accountable for their actions! Some examples of this include our work in the early 2000s, where we succeeded in pressuring electronics companies such as Dell, Apple, Samsung, and others to create takeback recycling programs. In 2017, after Hurricane Harvey, we assisted in the efforts to clean up the San Jacinto Waste Pits east of Houston after many toxic waste sites were flooded. More recently, in 2020 we have broadened our organizing to address the other ways the fossil fuel industry contributes to pollution, climate change, and the destruction of our natural resources. TCE has truly pioneered a community-based structure of organizing.
The hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. (schedule may occasionally vary based on campaigns).
